Local 2018 AAF District 12 American Advertising Awards® Winners Announced / 04/09/2018 11:11 pm

American Advertising AwardsAmerican Advertising Federation District 12 has completed judging of the 2018 American Advertising Awards competition this past weekend, hosted in Phoenix, AZ with a distinguished judging panel of advertising creative professionals from across the United States. The District competition included a total of 354 entries from advertising federation clubs throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and El Paso, Texas. 

American Advertising Federation Tucson forwarded 47 local Gold and Silver ADDY award-winning entries from their awards event held on March 3, 2018.  Of those entries, five professional entries received District ADDY Award® recognition. 

Crown Chimp Productions won two District SILVER ADDY Awards for Trouble Will Find Herentered in the Webisode and Cinematography categories. Crown Chimp Productions also earned District SILVER ADDY Awards for A Conversation and Rejoice! in the Cinematography category. 

Larry Gaurano Photography also received a District SILVER ADDY Award for Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen done in the Digitally Enhanced Photography category. 

Gold and Silver ADDY Award winning entries from the District 12 competition are eligible to compete in the AAF National American Advertising Awards competition, which will be judged in May. The final tier of awards will be announced during the national awards gala event on Friday, June 8th at The Chicago Hilton, as part of the 2018 AAF National Conference, ADMERICA!

Advertising Hall of Fame: 
The Tucson Advertising Hall of Fame Award was founded in 1986 as Tucson’s Advantage to recognize the meaningful contributions of local professionals to the Tucson advertising community and to preserve the legacy of the past and it’s connection to the future.  The initial inductees were members of the original Tucson Ad Club who represented a wide variety of industry disciplines including the media (broadcasting and sales), public relations, marketing, advertising agencies and business. Next Generation Award:
Recognizing advertising professionals age 40 and younger who are making a significant impact on the industry through their leadership, career achievements and personal qualities, which also inspires others to excel. AAF Silver Medal: 
The American Advertising Federation's Silver Media Award Program is a nationally recognized award that honors men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and have been active in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern. TUCSON 2018 ADDY AWARDS® WINNERS ANNOUNCED / 03/05/2018 12:20 pm

Love Me Tucson

March 5, 2018 Tucson, AZ – AAF Tucson honored its 2018 ADDY Awards competition winners at a black-tie gala, “Love Me Tucson” on March 3, 2018 at Casino Del Sol Resort. A total of 242 entries competed in 125 categories, with 67 Gold, Silver and Bronze awards presented.  

In addition, two Judge’s Choice awards went to Sonder Agency for Find Your Fight Social Campaign” done for Boxing Incorporated in the Social Media Campaign category and for Fukushu Branding done for Fukushu Restaurant Concepts in the Logo Design category. A Judge’s Choice award was also presented to James Patrick Photography for Stalking the Shot done for Golf Magazine in the Color Photography category. 

The professional Best of Show award in was presented to Steven Meckler Photographer for Chef Travis Peters done for Edible Baja Arizona in the Color Photography category. 

The Student Best of Show award went to Andre Rocha from the University Of Arizona for AZ Men's Soccer Social Media in the Art Direction category.

All Gold and Silver ADDY Awards winners of the local competition are eligible to compete in the second level of a three-tiered ADDY Awards competition, the AAF District 12 ADDY Awards which will be hosted in Phoenix, Arizona the weekend of April 7th. AAF District 12 is comprised of AAF and Ad2 chapters in Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. District winners will be eligible for the ultimate competition, the AAF American Advertising Awards. National awards will be presented June 9th at The Hilton Chicago during Admerica 2018, the American Advertising Federation’s National Conference.

The local ADDY Awards competition is conducted by AAF Tucson.  Proceeds from help support the Federation’s educational programs, public service projects and proactive government relations efforts. 

AAF Tucson and Ad 2 Tucson are comprised of over 300 local advertising and media professionals. AAF Tucson ADDY Awards® Winners to be honored March 3, 2018 / 02/06/2018 11:54 am

Love Me TucsonAmerican Advertising Federation Tucson (AAF Tucson) will honor our local market’s best in creative advertising on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Casino Del Sol Resort during its themed celebration, Love Me Tucson.

Winners’ notifications and invitations are out for the event, which will showcase the area’s outstanding advertising creative work from 2017. The event begins at 6 pm with a cocktail reception and winners’ gallery displays, followed by dinner, presentation of awards, and an after-party until Midnight. Musical entertainment and dancing will kick-off and close out the evening.

Judges have chosen winners from 242 interactive, digital, broadcast and print entries submitted by local agencies, businesses and individuals from throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona, as well as AAF University and college students.

Reservation rates for the gala event are currently $85 for AAF members, $100 for non-members and $65 for Ad2 Tucson / Emeritus members and students. Reservations must be completed and paid for in advance online at

Event proceeds will fund local education and non-profit initiatives, including the Tucson Advertising Federation Educational Foundation and AAF Student internship program. A portion will also be donated directly to Ad 2 Tucson’s annual Public Service Project 2018 beneficiary, Integrative Touch for Kids (ITK)*.

The Tucson competition is sponsored by AAF Tucson and Ad2 Tucson, joint member trade associations comprised of local advertising, marketing, public relations, media and design professionals. Proceeds from the ADDY Awards help support educational programs, public service projects and proactive government relations efforts of both chapters.

*Integrative Touch for Kids was founded in 2005 to minimize suffering of children with serious illnesses and special needs undergoing hospital treatment. ITK’s integrative healing therapies reach 3,500 people each year, through various individual and group programs all free of charge. Therapies include massage and bodywork, reflexology, sound healing, energy, play, art and movement therapies. All are focused on improving the lives of the children and their entire families. The new ITK advertising campaign, developed by Ad 2 Tucson, will be debuted soon.

Josh Souter is a creative director at Adobe where he leads 
content and web design for Adobe’s enterprise business.
He’s also an excellent liar. One of these things is a lie.
1. Josh once lived alone in a tent for four months on the banks of the Snake River.
2. His great-uncle invented television.
3. He’s created content for some of the world’s largest brands.
Samsung, Microsoft, GM, Adobe, Crocs, Travelocity, 
Nationwide Insurance, the Travelocity Gnome, etc.
4. He has four children. One of whom is named after a seedy bar in Star Wars.
And another who’s named for someone famous for almost chopping a baby in two.

Through slideshows, critiques and student discussions you will come away with the knowledge and vision of what strong composition and skilled use of lighting contributes to making a great photo.

If you want to make compelling photos by design not just luck, this seminar is for you. This is an intermediate through advanced photo course in a day for those who know how to use their camera and want to get the most out of it. We will analyze many of Steven’s images and critique participant’s work. The presentations will involve important concepts of composition,
light, and all the many decisions that go into making a photo.

Discussions will range from the best lens choices to choosing the optimal time of day to shoot, and much more. Get a glimpse behind the scenes of a professional photographer’s life, studio
and equipment. Put down your camera, channel your imagination, and learn from a day that explores the nuances of creative technique.

This is an event packed with information and important tips about all facets of photography. At the heart of the seminar is critical thinking about why you’re making photos and how you accomplish your perfect image. By looking at some of Steven’s commercial and editorial images, we can ask the important “why” questions and discuss the basic principles involved in 
capturing an engaging image.

You’ll be in a comfortable, focused and creative classroom at Steven Meckler’s studio.

Steven Meckler came to Tucson by way of Brooklyn, New York. He developed his love of photography in high school and graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After a stint as a medical photographer at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in Manhattan, Steven moved west and set up his studio in downtown Tucson. He first focused on building a solid commercial photography business with clients such as JC Penney, Intel, IBM, Pella Windows, New York Magazine and Phoenix Home & Garden, among many others. But the core of his success comes from the many local businesses, ad agencies and magazines he has had the pleasure of working with over the last thirty-plus years.

Steven was an adjunct professor of digital photography at Pima Community College for 14 years and has taught workshops and continuing education classes for high school photo teachers through the Arizona Department of Education. He also coordinates and teaches an annual series of photography workshops for Tucson high school photo students.

ADEN Members,

We are looking for potential customers who can provide the projects for our regional competition, coming up on February 2 at PCC West. Any local businesses who might want to use student-made work in real-world scenarios are welcome to apply by filling out the attached form. We do request that they provide some sort of prize to the winning student(s).

Our final 3 projects (selected from entries here) for competition day will be determined by the teacher committee at our upcoming meeting.
